Favorite memories of good ol' Hudson High

Then

  • I have so many memories of Hudson High.  Fragmented memories that jump all over the four years.
  • Watching the new Y-teens going down on their knees in front of their big sisters, while holding white dress shirts on hangers.
  • Waiting in line at the library during Study Hall and hoping to get in before Miss Keisler collected the maximum passes.
  • Working as a Teacher’s Assistant for the coaches.
  • Taking all the office courses from Mr. Gunning and actually talking him out of a quiz.
  • The standing ovation we all gave Bud Hosterman his first year at Hudson--for “Most Improvement”.
  • The noon movie and Bobby Darren singing Dream Lover and Splish Splash before it started.
  • Mary Morgan showing us the huge hole in her “non-run” stockings.
  • Seeing LInda Welding delivering notes to study hall on November 22, 1963.  Tears were rolling down her cheeks and we didn’t know why; until the PA system came on with a radio broadcast covering the assassination of President Kennedy.
  • Les Dingledine running 97 yards for a touchdown.
  • Ginny Hanawalt saying “bull!” and shocking all of us to pieces!  if only we knew what we would end up saying later on!
  • A lot of very nice teachers but the one time that stands out was when I did not do an out of school research paper because I could not go to a library.  Mr. Shoemaker asked why I didn’t have an outline to turn in; I told him and he said to meet him in the library the next study hall. He whizzed through the shelves, pulling out a dozen books and said to do it using those books. I got an A--what a guy.

And Now

  • Married right out of school. Had two children.  Worked as a telephone operator and a custodian then drove a school bus for Hudson for 25 years.   Gained a lot of weight.
  • Went to Kent State for 7 years while driving bus and earned a B.S. in Education. Applied to every school system east of the Missippi and got one interview, with Hudson, after which I was told others were ‘more qualified’. Lost a lot of weight.
  • Kept driving bus.  My oldest daughter got married, my husband died, I moved down the street.
  • Kept driving bus.  Met my husband Jerry, got married and have been happier than ever before. Gained a lot of weight.
  • Retired from driving school bus. Went to doctor for help to lose a lot of weight, again. For the last time; so far down 62 pounds and falling!
  • Now creating Ukrainian style eggs as well as my own designs which I offer for sale and also take commissions. Photos on my website.
  • We visit Janice in Florida once or twice a year. Have been to Denver to visit Mindy.
  • Four grandchildren (number five due the end of August), six if you count Stuart’s son, and one Great Dane.  Did I mention I was very happy?
  • Maintain two web sites of my own:  Graphic Originals for the frustrated artist in me and All Aboard! for family fun!! for the frustrated teacher in me! I have also designed and used to maintain a site for a dog breeder: Shangri-La  (she can now maintain it herself), as well as design web graphics by request.
  • Going in for a left hip replacement on August 2, 2004. Should make for a much better quality of life!
  • Successful total hip replacement right after our 2004 renunion.
Stopped limping in a year and now doing great!
  • Moved to Florida in June 2005 and loving it.
